Blepharoplasty for Bilateral Upper Eyelids

1. Pre-op Steps

  1. Marking of the incision site with a surgical marker
  2. Anesthesia with a local injection of 2% lidocaine and epinephrine
  3. Prepping and draping

2. Surgery

  1. Incision along the marked outline with a 15 blade
  2. Excision of excess skin with Westcott scissors
  3. Hemostasis via cauterization of the wound bed
  4. Removal of cholesterol plaques
  5. Wound closure with running 6-0 plain gut sutures

3. Post-op Care

  1. Ice compresses for the first 3 days after surgery
  2. Antibiotic ointment QID for the incision sites
  3. Artificial tears for lubrication as needed
  4. The patient should avoid lifting, bending, straining, and exercising for the first 10 days post-op
  5. If nylon sutures are used, they can be removed after 5-7 days post-op
  6. Follow-up within 1-2 weeks for postoperative evaluation
