Blepharoplasty for Bilateral Upper Eyelids
Table of Contents
1. Pre-op Steps
- Marking of the incision site with a surgical marker
- Anesthesia with a local injection of 2% lidocaine and epinephrine
- Prepping and draping
2. Surgery
- Incision along the marked outline with a 15 blade
- Excision of excess skin with Westcott scissors
- Hemostasis via cauterization of the wound bed
- Removal of cholesterol plaques
- Wound closure with running 6-0 plain gut sutures
3. Post-op Care
- Ice compresses for the first 3 days after surgery
- Antibiotic ointment QID for the incision sites
- Artificial tears for lubrication as needed
- The patient should avoid lifting, bending, straining, and exercising for the first 10 days post-op
- If nylon sutures are used, they can be removed after 5-7 days post-op
- Follow-up within 1-2 weeks for postoperative evaluation
